Alpha-glycerophosphate and lactic dehydrogenases of hematopoietic cells from leukemic mice.

چکیده
Bone marrow cells, lymphocytes, lymph nodes, solid lymphoid tumors, spleen and ascites cells from mice implanted with leukemia have markedly decreased o-glycerophosphate and increased lactic dehydrogenase activities. A striking parallel between the ratio of these dehydrogenases and the progression of the leukemia was found. These data, in conjunction with related findings, suggest that the a-glycerophosphate cycle, in contradistinction to its probable role in normal cells, may not mediate a sig nificant portion of the hydrogen transport in leukemic cells.

Lactic and Α-glycerophosphate Dehydrogenases in Insects
Different tissues, especially muscles, from insects belonging to various groups were extracted and studied for their lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase (GDH I) activities from the comparative point of view. In all cases assays of flight muscle extracts showed extremely low values of LDH activity whereas the GDH activities were surprisingly high. The activities i...

Study of the activities of hyaluronidase, lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme-X and the dehydrogenases of sorbitol, alpha-glycerophosphate, glucose-6-phosphate, malate, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and isocitrate in the testes of mice of different ages showed that the changes were correlated with the stages of spermatogenic cell differentiation. The first 4 enzymes had activities which were low in ne...
متن کاملAssessment of Cytotoxicity of Dimethyl Sulfoxide in Human Hematopoietic Tumor Cell Lines
Background: Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is a solvent most broadly used as a cryopreservative agent. Antitumor effects of DMSO is a recently recognized phenomenon. In this study, cytotoxic effects of DMSO on human monocytes and T leukemic cell lines has been investigated in vitro. Methods: Human leukemic T cells (Molt-4 and Jurkat) and monocytes (U937 and THP1) were cultured in complete RPMI medi...

متن کاملPatterns of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression in Hematopoietic Malignant Cells
Background and Objective: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a cytokine which is overexpressed in many malignant cancers including leukemia. VEGF plays an important role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Determination of the pattern of VEGF expression in human leukemic cell lines could be useful not only in screening of new antileukemic agents but also to study the mechanism of their ...
